Trial: Chicken of the Woods (LC to Grain)

Testing the viability of an older Liquid Culture (LC) syringe of Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus) when put to grain.

Progress Log

Start Date: Late May 2026

Method: Older LC syringe inoculated directly into sterilized grain jars.

Status: Success! The culture is looking very healthy and has reached 100% colonization.

6-5-2026 (Update): The jar is fully colonized and looking incredibly healthy. It's officially ready for a Grain to Grain (G2G) transfer today. Seeing this older culture bounce back so vigorously on grain is very encouraging.

Chicken of the Woods Grain Jar

Jar 1: 100% colonized and ready for G2G (6-05-2026).

6-10-2026 (Update): The G2G transfer has moved fast and is looking fully colonized. However, the mycelium doesn't look quite healthy enough yet for the next G2G expansion or S2B. I'm going to give it some more time to strengthen and consolidate.

COTW G2G Colonization

G2G transfer fully colonized but needing more time to consolidate (6-10-2026).

Next Steps

I'll be performing G2G transfers from this jar today to expand the culture. Chicken of the Woods can be a bit more challenging to fruit indoors, so the ultimate goal is to build up enough spawn for outdoor log inoculations or specialized indoor substrate experiments.
